VILLERS ABBEY

Villers Abbey, Villers-la-Ville, Belgium Villers Abbey  is an ancient Cistercian abbey  located in the town of Villers-la-Ville , in the Walloon Brabant  province of Wallonia, Belgium. The abbey was f ounded in 1146, and then was abandoned in 1796. Most of the site has since fallen into ruins, but don't let that put you off!! Villers Abbey made for an amazing day out!  We took our 4 children and they loved exploring the ruins.   The ruins are such an amazing site to see that it shouldn't surprise you that there were 2 wedding parties having their photographs taken here.  The main abbey would have been spectacular in its day! The grounds are well kept, with beautiful flowers and plenty of picnic areas on the big lawn. Not that we could do that when we went because of the Covid restrictions.  However, I'm sure they will soon be open as normal again for us all to enjoy. At the back of the Abbey you will find a sign and small staircase where you can go and see St Bernard's
